Coordinated Arson Attacks Target France’s High-Speed Rail Network, Disrupting Travel for 800,000 People

Paris, July 27, 2024 — Early Friday morning, coordinated arson attacks on France’s high-speed rail network brought train travel to Paris to a standstill, affecting approximately 800,000 travelers across Europe. The fires broke out before dawn along the tracks on three separate lines, causing widespread disruptions. In Vergigny, located in the south, another arson attempt was thwarted by rail agents who managed to scare off several suspects before they could cause any damage.
